This running pace chart converts every pace from 5:00 to 15:00 per mile, in 15-second steps, into minutes per kilometer, speed in miles per hour, and the finish time that pace gives for a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
Use it in either direction. If you know the pace you run comfortably, read across to see what it means over each race distance. If you have a goal time, find the nearest time in that race's column and read back to the pace on the left.
The conversions are simple. One mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometers, so a pace per mile divided by 1.609344 gives the pace per kilometer: 8:00 per mile is 4:58 per kilometer. Speed is pace turned upside down: 60 divided by your minutes per mile gives miles per hour, so 8:00 per mile is 7.5 mph and 10:00 per mile is 6.0 mph.
The race columns assume you hold the same pace for the whole distance. That is right for reading a goal pace, but it is not a prediction: very few runners can hold their 5K pace for a half marathon. Read the column for the race you are actually training for.
For a pace between rows, or a distance that isn't in the chart, the pace calculator works out any combination of distance, time and pace, with splits.
